Lunchtime Lecture: Towards smarter cities: empowering communities
The essence of a city is its citizens and communities. A city’s infrastructure and associated services play a vital role in citizens’ day to day living and their overall quality of life. Gathering data in a traditional approach, i.e. using precise physical sensors, is a highly expensive task, involving procurement, installation and maintenance of a number of sensors.

XR (Cross Reality/VR/AR) Partnership Day - Future Cities Catapult
Future Cities Catapult are pleased to be working in partnership to deliver a full day workshop exploring the possible value of Cross Reality, VR and AR to the advanced urban services/smart cities agenda. We invite a number of university and business partners to join us to help define what our research priorities might be in this area, to network and to engage with some of the latest tools and technologies. XR (Cross or Extended Reality) is a recent umbrella term that attempts to simplify the understanding and adoption of the full range of immersive technologies that generate new forms of reality, recognising that in the future we will see people interacting with the virtual world and real world in seamless, frictionless, and continuous ways, not bound by delineations of experience between VR, AR, and MR.
