Case study: LiFE

Ambulance response times are critical to achieving the best outcomes for patients, and the Life First Emergency Traffic Control (LiFE) project, funded by Innovate UK and led by UK company Red Ninja, working with the Catapult, shows how artificial intelligence (AI) technology could cut minutes off emergency journey times.

Working with Liverpool City Council, Red Ninja used its data expertise and insights to create a new algorithm that would operate within the existing urban traffic signal control system (SCOOT). The technology is designed to help clear congestion ahead of the emergency vehicles, and prioritise emergency vehicles first in the traffic.
