Shifting from the public realm into a more controlled, single building environment allows companies to test and demonstrate their products and services and gain valuable data about their work. Our Urban Innovation Centre (UIC) will become a testbed, where SMEs can test and monitor elements such as noise, room temperature and air quality against a baseline we’ve created via sensors throughout the building.
For the first phase of the Building Testbed, we’re putting the emphasis on healthy buildings: how might we improve productivity and wellbeing for visitors and people who use the space on a daily basis? There are two different aspects we plan to explore:
- The environmental quality of the building (including air quality) and the impact on the wellbeing of the people who use the space.
- The energy efficiency of the building itself.
In collaboration with the people who use the space, we will test the implemented products and services, and develop those further. The Building Testbed will supply the SMEs with an environment where impact can be measured and assessed over a set period of time.
Companies with ideas and solutions in the following areas should consider applying to the Building Testbed:
- Air Quality
We are currently collecting detailed data to understand how our building performs, which will allow SMEs to understand and demonstrate the impact of their technology on the space.
