Integrated Urban Planning is a priority theme for Future Cities Catapult. Our new Future of Planning programme will explore how the digitisation of the planning system can de-risk the development process for the private sector and make the public sector more efficient and transparent, so that planners have more time to plan.
Our overall objective is to demonstrate the viability, desirability and feasibility of having a more data-driven and digitally enabled planning system.
We are already engaged in a number of projects that are both researching the need and opportunity for new ways of accelerating and enhancing various facets of the planning process and demonstrating new tools and techniques that achieve this. We want to work with others to accelerate this work and create new opportunities for those in the market to innovate and implement these ideas.
We are setting up an Innovation Panel made up people and businesses who are looking to disrupt the planning and development industry. These are people who have ideas of how we can manage our cities better. Whether this is about helping find land for development, making it easier to understand viability, improving how we make planning decisions or transforming how citizens engage with development in their area – our Innovators Panel will be exploring the planning and development industry from head to tail.
The first event of the Innovators Panel will be an ‘Early Ideas Workshop’ on Thursday 27th October between 2-6pm. This will be 4-hour sprint to try and identify and develop early ideas for how we can improve the planning system. We’ll be leading this event with support from Nesta and the ideas generated will be presented back in an open-mic style to our Future of Planning Sounding Board, which is made up of some of the most highly respected practitioners in the industry.
There’ll be a chance to network throughout and drinks will be provided after the event.
This is a private, invite-only event. To be considered for the panel or for any questions please email Jon Robertson: email@example.com
