Our Head of Integrated Urban Mobility, Sofia Taborda, launched the Urban Mobility Innovation Index (UMii) at the UITP Global Public Transport Summit in Montreal, highlighting the innovation potential that cities can unlock to boost urban mobility.
The UMii project provides insights into urban mobility and innovation in cities across the world, and acts as a guide for cities to foster innovation in their urban mobility services and systems.
The initial findings of the UMii project, initiated by RTA (Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai) and implemented by UITP (the International Association of Public Transport) and Future Cities Catapult, showcase the policy pathway cities should take to maximise their urban mobility expertise.
Ideas like implementing new types of governance and constructing new ways to create, plan and collaborate with key partners and end users, can make a significant difference in harnessing the potential for cities to improve their urban mobility.
UMii also makes key recommendations for urban leaders on the strategies they need to implement to ensure they are ahead of the curve on this issue. This includes utilising the power of data to achieve objectives, greater work with stakeholders in developing urban mobility strategies, and looking at mobility in the wider context of sustainable urban planning.
